The method involves writing data streams (3) in a first-in, first-out standby buffer (4) in parallel to a transmission. A higher information flow-rate is transferred to a lower device and to the streams. Transferred contents of the first-in, first-out standby buffer are stored in the lower device and the streams are initiated. The lower device is downstream to a client. A retranscoded stream is transmitted by a higher device. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a transmitting system for transmitting streams in a Internet protocol network (2) a router for use in the transmitting system (3) a method for retrofitting a transmitting system.
