A washing machine capable of preventing any leakage of a gas having a cleansing function to outside. In the washing machine, prior to the washing step, there is carried out the ozone cleansing step of feeding ozone to dry clothes to be washed to thereby cleanse the clothes. Prior to the starting of the ozone cleansing step, dehumidification water valve (14) is opened to thereby temporarily stock dehumidification water in an inferior portion of outer tank (7), and thereafter by the use of the water, water stocking is carried out in overflow water trap (45) to thereby water seal the flow channel between the outer tank (7) and outside. Also, byopening detergent valve (55) or finishing compound valve (56), water stocking is carried out in water supply trap (24) to thereby water seal the flow channel between the outer tank (7) and outside.
