<p>A method and system are provided for managing transfer of software images to ONTs over a PON network. The method includes dividing a software image into multiple segments, where each segment is divided into sections. The sections of each segment include at least one unacknowledged section and at least one acknowledged section. The method further includes downloading, over a common broadcast channel to a group of ONTs, the unacknowledged sections of a first segment. The unacknowledged sections are downloaded successively in an unacknowledged manner. The method further includes downloading, over unicast channel to corresponding ONTs within a group of ONTs, the acknowledged section of the first segment. Each of the ONTs in the group of ONTs returns of an acknowledgement or a non-acknowledgement in response to the acknowledged section downloaded from the OLT. The acknowledged or unacknowledged reply message is returned depending upon whether the corresponding ONT is properly received and recorded each section within a corresponding segment.</p> |
