The invention relates to a device for forcing apart the spinous processes of two successive vertebrae. The spinous processes of the two vertebrae are placed on two separate widening means which are fixed to a base body that can be continuously widened. The base body can be continuously displaced and fixed by at least one guiding means. The separate displacement of the base body enables the widening means to be widened along the axial axis, thus forcing apart the spinous processes of the two vertebrae. Holding means can be used for a stable positioning of the implant and prevent an undesired movement of the device after the implantation.
