PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polarizing film having such a property as to be uniformly low in rectangular transmittance in the wavelength range of 550 to 700 nm and high in light resistance, and to provide a dye compound suitable for the polarizing film. SOLUTION: The dye compound is a polyazo compound represented by formula(I) or (II)(wherein, A is a naphthyl group having 1-3 sulfo groups and optionally having lower alkyl and/or lower alkoxy group(s); R<SP>1</SP>and R<SP>2</SP>are each H, a lower alkyl or lower alkoxy; R<SP>3</SP>is amino or OH; the sulfo group's salt in A and Q are each H, an alkali metal salt, organic amine salt or ammonium salt).
