A control device (42) for controlling a joining drive (64) is arranged on the joining-system head (22), spatially separated from a holding device (66) and the joining drive, so that the holding device and the joining drive form a joining tool (32) of small dimensions. A loading drive (68) is provided to transfer the elements (36) supplied to a transfer station (46) to the holding device (66). Independent claims are included for a joining system, and for a method of supplying elements from a stationary unit to a moving joining-system head and for joining the supplied elements to components (38).
