A washing machine with integral spin drier action has an oscillation dampener with a housing within which a plunger moves back and forth. The housing has a window with a friction interface pad. This friction pad is in frictional contact with the inner side of an adjacent housing. The dampening characteristics are determined by the shape of both the window and the friction pad.
