Deformation of mask based images

An image processing method is described that allows a user to manipulate regions of interest (ROI) in a mask based image. The user defines a stretch vector for example by clicking and dragging a mouse pointer and an algorithm deforms the ROI according to a roll off function that avoids non-smooth edge effects seen in prior art techniques such as paintbrushes. A plurality of vectors parallel to the stretch vector are generated whose magnitude is determined by a roll-off function dependant on the distance of the vector, in any direction, from the origin of the stretch vector. The method may be applied to pixels (2D) or voxels (3D).
