A memory card system and a host ID information transfer method thereof are provided to perform operation suitable for a version and a kind of each host by receiving host ID information from the host. A host(110) generates a command for transferring the host ID information by using a command or data line. A memory card(120) generates a response signal by responding to the command. The memory card performs the operation suitable for the host by receiving the host ID information from the memory. The memory card is an SD(Secure Digital) and an MMC(Multimedia Memory Card). The host ID information is included in an argument of a command format.
