A device 1 for cutting vegetables, fruit &c. into wedge shaped portions includes a cutting element 4 comprising an annular ring 25, a segmental anchor post 26 along the inner edge of the ring 25, a pair of mounting slots 27 in the ring 25 opposite the anchor post 26, a blade 23 (or 19) wrapped around the anchor post 26 and having its ends locked by wedges 28 in the slots 27 with the blade 23 in a prestressed condition. The cutter ring 4 is housed in the base 2 of the cutting device 1 and may include two similar blades 19 (Fig. 1) or, as shown in Fig. 8, may comprise two cutting blades 23, one of which is unbent to provide six similar wedge portions. The prestressing of the blades 23 serves to assist the locking action of the wedges 28. The device 1 includes a pusher head 3 with hand holds 6 mounted for vertical movement on grooved guides 8 which on depression of the pusher 3 extend against the action of a return spring into the base 2. The guides 8 are pivotable when the pusher 3 is in its uppermost position and the pusher head 3 carries on its lower surface projections which flank the blades 19, 23 when the pusher is depressed. The deformed ends of the blades may be knurled or dimpled.</p> |
