The method involves utilizing reference color values, color space transformation specification and measured values for determination of an actual color value of a printed substrate. A comparison of an actual condition with a nominal condition in a segmented color is accomplished. The segmented color space is a device independent color space. A cyan magneta yellow key (CMYK) weighting factor is computed for each segment. A center deviation of the measured color values is computed from the reference color values.
