A gas or steam turbine engine has a heat exchanger 21, which may be provided to cool compressor air flows to be utilized for cabin ventilation or other functions, and which has a dedicated outlet duct 28, whereby exhausted fluid flow from the heat exchanger is delivered to a low pressure region. The outlet duct 28 may have an outlet 29 located downstream of a bypass duct in a central core cowl of the engine or in an air-washed surface of an engine mounting pylon. The outlet duct 28 may have a variable geometry nozzle (which may be at the outlet 29) a converging nozzle, and/or one or more outlet apertures. A baffle may be provided to provide a plenum for the heat exchanger exhaust flow, and an air fan valve 26 may be provided. The arrangement enables a ventilation zone 111 to be vented via a vent slot 33, independently of the flow from the heat exchanger. |
