The implant, for use in spinal surgery, comprises a hollow body (10) for insertion between two adjacent vertebrae, and an anchoring element (20) with surface projections (22) to engage with the vertebrae above and below the implant. The body has upper and lower edges with sharp-pointed teeth (105) of triangular section to grip the vertebrae, while the anchoring element reinforces the implant and can be rotated inside it. The projections on the anchoring element can be, for example, in the form of spiral ribs of rectangular cross-section which, in a variant can be triangular at one end of the element and change gradually to rectangular at the other. The hollow implant is made, for example, from titanium or stainless steel, and can be filled with a substance which promotes bone growth and have a coating of hydroxyapatite. |
