FAULT-TOLERANT METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR TOUCH SENSOR

A method and a device for preventing malfunction in a touch sensor are provided to maximize a detection time gap among signal of neighboring sensors, minimize noise effect, and extract the operation mode close to a user intention from a signal area included in the normal operation modes when the operation mode is determined. A plurality of sensor pads(101) receive an operation signal by comprising outer sensor pads(101a) and inner sensor pads(101b). A clustering part(102) detects the signal by clustering the sensor pads according to the inputted signal. An operation mode determiner(103) discriminates the operation mode through the detected signal, and excludes the signal noise and interference. The outer sensor pads are arranged at regular intervals to receive a widthwise operation signal with time intervals. The inner sensor pads are arranged at the regular intervals to receive a lengthwise operation signal with the time intervals. The operation mode determiner determines whether the detect signal is included in the predetermined signal area or not. The operation mode is a scrolling, dragging, and long touch mode.
