A washing machine and a method for controlling the same are provided to allow a drum and a drum door to be stably opened and closed by sensing location of the drum door by using a sensor and regulating the drum door automatically for proper position. A washing machine comprises a body, a drum(30) having an injection hole(34), a tub, a drum door(40), a drive motor, a second sensing unit(44), and a door location sensor(26b). The drum is installed in the body, wherein the opened injection hole is formed at one part of a cylindrical body unit. The tub is surrounding an outer part of the drum, wherein an opening unit facing to the injection hole is formed at one part of the cylindrical body unit. The drum door is rotatably installed at an inner part of the drum, and selectively opens and closes the injection hole. The drive motor selectively rotates the drum or the drum door. The second sensing unit is installed at one of two walls of the drum door. The door location sensor is facing to the second sensing unit, and senses opening and closing of the drum door. |
