A WDM-PON(Wavelength Division Multiplexing-Passive Optical Network) system for enabling uplink/downlink signal transmission by using a single channel and a signal transmission method thereof are provided to enable the uplink/downlink signal transmission through the single channel, thereby more flexibly configuring a network structure. An external modulator(20) modulates WDM light sources to generate uplink subcarriers. An OLT(Optical Line Terminal)(40) generates downlink beams by modulating the light sources, combines the downlink beams with the uplink subcarriers to send the combined beams as downlink beams, and restores uplink signals from uplink beams. An ONU(Optical Network Unit)(60) receives the downlink beams to restore downlink signals from the downlink signal beams, and modulates the downlink beams to transmit the modulated beams as the uplink beams. A WDM filter(50) wavelength-separates the downlink beams to send the separated beams to the ONU(60), and performs a WDM process for the uplink beams to send the beams to the OLT(40).
