A cathode active material for a lithium secondary battery is provided to ensure excellent lifespan characteristics at high temperature as well as room temperature even under a high rate charge/discharge condition, and improved safety. A cathode active material for a lithium secondary battery comprises a mixture of a lithium manganese spinel oxide represented by the formula of Li1+xMn2-yMyO4-zAz and a lithium nickel cobalt manganese oxide represented by the formula of Li1+aNibMncCo1-(b+c)O2, wherein M is a metal having an oxidation number of 2 or 3; A is a monovalent or divalent anion; 0 <= x <= 0.2; 0 <= y <= 0.2; 0 < z <= 0.5; 0 <= a <= 0.1; 0.2 <= b <= 0.7; 0.2 <= c <= 0.7; and b + c < 1. Preferably, M is at least one selected from the group consisting of B, Mg, Al, Ca, Sr, Co, Ni, Cr, Cu, Fe, Ti, Y and Zn. |
