A digital broadcasting service system and a method thereof are provided to enable the user to connect with the Internet while viewing digital broadcasting to receive information about broadcasting contents, transmit a cheering message to a specific person or place an order for home shopping easily. A digital broadcasting service system includes a broadcasting station(100) and a digital broadcasting receiving device(300). The broadcasting station transmits digital broadcasting data including at least one event and digital broadcasting program guide data. The digital broadcasting receiving device receives the digital broadcasting data, checks link information about an event from the digital broadcasting program guide data if there is the participation request of a user for the event generated during the output of the digital broadcasting data, and participates in the event by performing an application corresponding to the checked link information.
