An underwater image taking apparatus and method for displaying the image are provided to increase resolution of an image acquired by supersonic waves and provide an optical image and a supersonic wave image per an interval at the same time, thereby improving discrimination of an object per an interval. An underwater image taking apparatus includes a sound wave transmitting unit(120), a sound wave receiving unit(130), a received sound wave lens unit(110), a control unit, and a display unit(160). The sound wave transmitting unit transmits supersonic waves. The sound wave receiving unit receives supersonic waves transmitted from the sound wave transmitting unit. The received sound wave lens unit collects the received supersonic waves. The control unit generates images from sound waves received from the sound wave receiving unit. The display unit displays images outputted from the control unit.
