An air conditioner and a control method thereof are provided to mount a plurality of blades to an outlet for effectively controlling an amount and a direction of wind vent, wherein intereference or collision during the opening or closing of the blades are prevented even when the positions of the blades are changed by unexpected external force. An air conditioner includes a main body(1) formed with an outlet(10), a first blade(13) mounted at a side of the outlet to rotate, and a second blade(14) mounted at the other side of the outlet to rotate and overlapping the first blade, wherein the second blade rotates in the opposite direction from the first blade. A control part controls operation of the first and second blades in such a manner that the first and second blades rotate in sequence for opening or closing the outlet.
