A method of stimulating neuronal growth or repair in a non human animal comprising exposing a target neuron or neuronal area to a solution of metallothionein isoform MT-IIA. Also described is a therapeutic composition adapted for topic administration to an area of neuronal compromise and comprises metallothionein isoform MT-IIA as an active ingredient.
