PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a spring clutch having improved durability for preventing the breakage of a clutch spring due to fatigue. SOLUTION: The clutch spring 10 incorporated between a pulley 1 and a pulley hub 2 and sectionally formed of an angular rod material has an elliptical cross section perpendicular to the center axis. The outer periphery on the major axis side of the elliptical clutch spring 10 is put in elastic contact with a clutch face 4. A terminal portion 10a at one end of the clutch spring 10 is inserted and fixed into a spiral groove 6 of the pulley hub 2. During one-way rotation of the pulley 1, diameter of the clutch spring 10 in contact with the clutch face 4 is enlarged. During the diameter enlargement, the outer periphery on the minor axis side of the clutch spring 10 is put in elastic contact with the clutch face 4 at a delayed timing, thus relaxing sudden torque input produced by the clutch and improving the durability of the spring clutch.
