A method and an apparatus for setting a destination for a navigation terminal are provided to enhance voice recognition rates by reducing the number of voice recognition data based on a predetermined classification scheme. A guidance voice required for inputting a destination is generated(201). User voice related to the destination is inputted(203). When the destination required by the user is in destination lists, the destination of the destination lists is set as a destination for route search(213). When the destination required by the user is not in destination lists, a classification reference item is received from the user. A part of the destination lists is set as a search range according to the classification reference item. The destination corresponding to the required destination is detected within the search range. The detected destination is set as the destination for route search(209).
