A reactor column mantle(1) has a bell-shaped base with a cylindrical external neck (201) under a cover (203) and a cylindrical inner neck (202). The external neck and cover are sealed together. The lower section of the external neck has gas apertures (204), and a liquid inlet (205) at the upper end. The upper end of the inner neck (202) is separated by a gap from the cover (203). The base (210) is sealed against the inner neck and the column inner wall. The central fluid reservoir (20) is essentially a circular overflow weir (208) located on top of the cover (203).
