The inventive method consists in designing a marking mask which is array-encoded by local thickness variations, in producing said mask in encoding it by a layer of mask radiation-opaque or transparent cells, in apposing (104) the mask on a subject or an image receiver, in picking-up the mask identifier and indexing it to the object data sets in an information system, in reading, decoding the mask radiographic image and retrieving indexed data sets related to the subject and, in the case of a radiographic film, in countermarking in fine the film by a printed support carrying in plain desired marking data sets. Said method is carried out by means of a system comprising a specific optical reader of the mask or the radiographic image thereof, and the following products which are obtained by said method: a two dimensionally or array-encoded mask, transferred to a subject or cassette and a pre-marked cassette integrating said mask.
