A method for providing an idle screen layer, a method for providing an idle screen and a mobile communication terminal thereof are provided to output an idle screen composed of a landmark image and output animation effects according to the generation of an event, thereby adding entertainment elements to a user interface. A method for providing an idle screen layer in a mobile communication terminal comprises the following steps of: providing a background layer for displaying a background image according a time zone in the current location of the mobile communication terminal(700); providing a landmark layer by position for displaying the background image as the idle screen by overlapping a landmark image corresponding to location information received according to the movement of the mobile communication terminal(730); and providing an event layer for overlapping animation data, which displays visual effects interworking with the background image, on the idle screen in order to inform a kind of event when an event occurs in the mobile communication terminal(750).
