METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR AUTO WHITE BALANCING

A method and an apparatus for auto white balancing are provided to solve a problem that color reproduction is irregular according to the color or the size of an object even if the object is photographed under the same light source. A light source detection region is set according to exposure integration time(EIT) indicating the amount of collected light when an image is taken(S210). A light source is detected from the whole gamut of image colors by using data in the light source detection region(S220). A candidate area, which corresponds to the EIT and is selected from a plurality of preset candidate areas, is determined as the light source detection region. The light detection region is determined by additionally using the distribution of the gamut of image colors.
