PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a select assist device for an automatic transmission capable of improving fuel consumption by actualizing automatic change-over to an N-range position. SOLUTION: The select assist device comprises a position sensor 62 for detecting an operating position, and a stop determining part 37 for determining that a vehicle is stopped. A control unit 22 has a stop change-over control part 38 for change-over from a D-range position to the N-range position without the operating input of a select lever 2 when the vehicle is stopped with the operating position being the D-range position.
