<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image encoder which enhances image quality in low bit rate moving image encoding. <P>SOLUTION: In an image encoder using encoding schemes of frame image DCT type selecting mode, frame image frame DCT fixing mode and respective modes of field images, vertical energy for each macro block is calculated (expressions (1), (2)), an encoding efficiency evaluation value is calculated from the calculated value (expressions (4), (5), (6)), an encoding scheme in the image encoding mode corresponding to the smallest evaluation value among the resultant evaluation values is determined, and encoding is performed by the encoding scheme in the determined image encoding mode. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT</p> |
