An apparatus and a method for transmitting a broadcasting signal are provided to solve a problem of a related art that a receiver determines a modulation scheme of the broadcasting signal only when the receiver applies both multi-carrier and single-carrier demodulation schemes to the broadcasting signal. Mode information representing a multi-carrier modulation scheme or a single-carrier modulation scheme is made. The mode information is inserted into data duration to be transmitted. The data duration is made according to the multi-carrier modulation scheme or the single-carrier modulation scheme. The data duration is multiplexed. Duration for a training signal is inserted into the multiplexed data duration. The power for the mode information is greater than the power for data belonging to the data duration.
