A control method of a vacuum cleaner is provided to maximize collection capacity of dust in a collection unit by forming a pair of press plates for pressing the foreign materials. A control method of a vacuum cleaner comprises the steps of: detecting an amount of dust in a collection unit during a cleaning process; and informing(S500) a timing for removing dust of the collection unit in case the dust of a predetermined amount are stored in the collection unit. The condensation of the foreign materials in the collection unit is executed by a reciprocal operation of at least one press plate capable of moving during the cleaning process.
