<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image printing apparatus capable of appropriately preventing deterioration in image quality due to toner deterioration even in such the situation that toner of poor quality is used, and to provide a control method and a program for the image printing apparatus. <P>SOLUTION: The number of cleaning times Ncln of cleaning unnecessary residual toner remaining on an intermediate transfer belt 22 by a cleaning blade 22c is set based on toner quality ranking stored in an IC memory 41, and the cleaning blade 22c and a printer engine 21 are controlled so that cleaning of the intermediate transfer belt 22 may be performed as many as the set number of cleaning times.
