PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain improvement in the circularity of a commutator and the improvement of productivity simultaneously, when cutting a surface of the commutator of a rotating electric machine with a cutting tool. SOLUTION: In a cutting device 10, shaft placement tables 36, 38 are changed by rotating each of eccentric cams 18, 20, 22. Here, the amount of eccentricity, diameter dimensions, and the like of each of the eccentric cams 18, 20, 22 are preset so that the position of the commutator 102 to the cutting tool 80 always becomes constant, and it is configured to automatically perform the position adjustment of each of the shaft placement tables 36, 38. Since the processing standard of the cutting tool 80 does not change, it is not necessary to change the positional adjustments, including the center height adjustment of the cutting tool 80 with respect to the commutator 102. Consequently, the productivity is improved. Furthermore, the commutator can be made less likely to be affected by the circularity of a rotating shaft 104, by supporting the rotating shaft 104 with shaft receivers 40, 42 of a U shape, and as a result, circularity of the commutator 102 can be improved.
