PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the durability of a movable contact piece in a relay that opens and closes an electric circuit. SOLUTION: The relay 10 includes a switch unit 22 having a fixed contact piece 17 and the movable contact piece 18 that moves to come in contact with the fixed contact piece 17. The relay 10 also includes a drive unit 23 that axially moves a shaft 20 supporting the movable contact piece 18. When the shaft 20 is caused to move axially by the move of the drive unit 23, the movable contact piece 18 supported on the shaft 20 moves toward the fixed contact piece 17 at which a part of the contact surface 18a of the movable contact piece 18 moves into a groove 21 to move along it. The move of the part of the contact surface 18a along the herical groove 21 gives movable contact piece 18 a torque. The rotation of the movable contact piece 18 changes the position of a point of contact between the movable contact piece 18 and the fixed contact piece 17, thus preventing wearing of a specific place on the movable contact piece 18.
