PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently execute read request to a tape library system from a host. SOLUTION: A hierarchical storage system comprises the host 1 for issuing data read request, at least one hard disk unit 2 which stores data connected to the host 1, the tape library system 3 which stores data, and a controller 10 for controlling data read, connected to the hard disk unit 2 and the tape library system 3.
