An auto attendant system in which a plurality of individually scheduled auto attendants can either receive calls on direct lines from outside a company or on links from other auto attendants in the company, without having to store redundant menu choices in more than one location. When a caller selects a menu choice in a first auto attendant requesting to be transferred to a second auto attendant, the call is transferred directly to the scheduler for the second auto attendant, thus eliminating the need for complex routing tables. The scheduler in the second auto attendant presents the caller with a menu as determined by the second auto attendant's schedule.
