A method and a device for driving a plasma display panel are provided to minimize distortion of sustain pulses by supplying a sufficient discharge current to the plasma display panel while rising the sustain pulses. A voltage level of a scan electrode or a sustain electrode is maintained by a first voltage(-Vs/2) during a predetermined interval. A resonance current is inserted into capacitance of a plasma display panel such that the voltage level of the scan or sustain electrodes increases from the first voltage. When the voltage level of the scan or sustain electrodes reaches a second voltage(Vs/2) in the course of decrease of the resonance current, the voltage level of the scan or sustain electrodes is maintained at the second voltage during a predetermined interval.
