<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel image forming apparatus capable of generating contour line image data usable for a coloring picture by reading an original such as printed matter and a photo. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus F includes: an original read means 4 for reading an original to obtain read image data; an edge extract means 6a for extracting edges from the read image data; and a means 6b for generating contour line image data comprising only contour lines on the basis of the extracted edges.
