PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a home security system that automatically switches to a surveillance mode even if a dweller forgets to switch on a button when leaving, and if there are any open doors or windows, notifies the status to the dweller quickly. SOLUTION: The home security system 1 has an entrance sensor 5 for detecting the presence of any persons at an entrance, window opening detection sensors 6a for detecting open windows, door opening detection sensors 6b for detecting open doors, an alarm means 7 for reporting a burglary, and a controller 2 for controlling the operation of the alarm means 7. When a detection signal is received from the entrance sensor 5 in a non-surveillance mode, the operation status is switched to a surveillance mode unless a detection signal is received from the entrance sensor 5 after a predetermined "surveillance wait time" wait.
