PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a socket for an electric component easily equipped with a mechanism for locking a pressing member in a closed state. SOLUTION: The socket is provided with the pressing member 15 installed in free turning on a socket body housing an electric component for pressing the electric component in nearly a horizontal state, an operating member installed on the socket body in free up-and-down movement for turning the pressing member 15, and a latch member 16 fitted to the pressing member 15 in free turning and equipped with a locking pawl 31b locked to the socket body with the pressing member in nearly a horizontal state. The latch member 16 has a pressed part 31a formed, and, the socket is composed so that, as the operating member 14 is lowered to have a locking-release member 14g formed at the operating member 14 press the pressed member 31a to turn the latch member 16, a locking state of the latch member 16 to the socket body is to be released.
