PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a communication method and a communication system capable of performing data communication at low cost, and with high security, and a feeling close to always-on connection. SOLUTION: A vehicle 1a, 1b, ..., 1n, arranged with a vehicle-mounted information terminal 10 (an information terminal) capable of performing data communication on a packet communication system, performs data communication with an information communication center 3 via a packet communication network 2 on the vehicle-related information by the vehicle-mounted information terminal 10. The data communication between a vehicle 1 and the information communication center 3 is performed with a metered rate charging only on the occurrence of the event, high security, and a feeling close to the always-on connection.
