A research device and a method are provided to enable a user to perform an audience rating survey through a portable terminal by using a CBS(Cell Broadcasting Service) message, thereby surveying an accurate audience rating. A wireless communication unit(41) receives the first CBS message, and transmits the second CBS message which is a response message for the first CBS message to a research system. A controller(45) receives the first CBS message to analyze the received message, and controls so that the second CBS message is transmitted to the wireless communication unit according to the analyzed results. The first CBS message is received by a paging channel.
