PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a backlight capable of suppressing wrinkles of an optical sheet under the heat from a light source while securing manufacturing property.

SOLUTION: A slit 56 is discontinuously formed on a lamp unit side of at least either of the optical sheets 51-54 provided on a surface of a light guide plate in a periphery of a position corresponding to a display screen area of a liquid crystal panel. The wrinkles of the optical sheets under the heat from the light source can be suppressed while securing manufacturing property by absorbing thermal expansion of the optical sheets 51-54 by the slit 56.
