PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing ionized alkaline water and a water modifier, in each of which ionized alkaline water having the same oxidation-reduction potential and pH as those of the ionized alkaline water obtained by using an apparatus for producing electrolytic water can be generated easily without electrolyzing water. SOLUTION: An ionized water generator A1 being the water modifier is formed into a bar-like shape and has such a size that it can be fit in a PET bottle and a cylindrical main body 11 where magnesium powder is housed. Covers 12, 12 are arranged at both ends of the main body 11 in the longitudinal direction so as to be fit slightly more tightly in the main body at both ends. Water passage holes 111, 121 for contacting the magnesium powder with the water in the PET bottle and nets 12, 14 for preventing the magnesium powder from leaking to the outside through the water-passable holes 111, 121 are arranged respectively in required positions of the peripheral surface of the main body 11 and on the covers 12, 12.
