PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid ejection apparatus equipped with a valve unit which adjusts pressure introduced into a maintenance means for maintaining a liquid ejection head, wherein the valve unit can realize the three patterns of combination of the open/closed states and can be miniaturized. SOLUTION: The valve unit has a plurality of built-in passage valves 204 consisting of a suction passage valve 210 and an atmospheric air passage valve 216 sharing a valve body 201. The valve body 201 is urged in the direction of closing the atmospheric air passage valve 216 by means of an atmospheric air valve closing spring 202. A valve pressing body 193 presses the valve body 201 through the pressure applying spring 194 when a valve pressure applying body 191 is pressurized and the open/closed states of the passage valve 204 is switched in three stages corresponding to the pressurized amount. The atmospheric air passage valve 216 is closed as shown in the figure wherein the valve body 201 comes into close contact with a valve seat 211a, the atmospheric air passage valve 216 and the suction passage valve 210 synchronously open when the valve body 201 is away from the valve seat 211a and the suction passage valve 210 is closed when the valve body 201 comes into close contact with the valve seat 207a.
