PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pile holding device which keeps the height of the device low, prevents the sinking of a preceding pile, and allows a pile to be adjusted in a position to be at the center of a hole. SOLUTION: Two hydraulic cylinders each having one tube containing one piston rod are fixed as one hydraulic cylinder is directed forward while the other is directed backward to form complex hydraulic cylinders for chuck opening/closing and forward/backward driving. The forward-directed piston rod is connected to a front chuck board, and the backward-directed piston rod is connected to a back chuck board. The forward-directed and backward-directed piston rods move back and forth selectively to cause the pair of chuck boards to open and close and to move forward and backward in a closed or opened state.
