PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an improving agent for modifying properties of an olefin polymer or its copolymer, which is capable of decomposing easily the polymer under natural surroundings. SOLUTION: An improving agent comprises a transition metal acid, a carrier having predetermined particle size for dispersing the agent and a predetermined amount of a medium containing a double bonded oxygen and a methyl group in a molecule. The improving agent forms a side chain and a branched chain in a molecular structure of a polymer, whereby flexibility and strength of the polymer are increased so as to reduce an amount of the polymer. In this way, surrounding protection can be attained. A transition metal and a double bonded oxygen contained in a side chain or a branched chain in a polymer, which are produced by the improving agent, accelerate formation of a peroxide of the transition metal by heat energy generated during oxidative decomposition which is caused upon contacting the polymer with natural surroundings, whereby C-H bonds in the polymer are broken to attain the effect of decomposition of the polymer.
