PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique for stably compounding an oil-soluble active ingredient, especially a solid oil-soluble active ingredient, in a sufficient amount in a high internal phase water-in-oil emulsion preparation using an organic-modified clay mineral. SOLUTION: This water-in-oil emulsion type external preparation for the skins is characterized by comprising (1) an organic-modified clay mineral, (2) L-carnitine and/or its salt, and (3) one or more selected from the following polyhydric alcohols. The polyhydric alcohols are 1,2-pentanediol, 1,2-hexanediol, 1,2-octanediol, and dipropylene glycol. It is preferable that the external preparation further contains dimethicone or cyclomethicone in an amount of 15 to 30 mass%. It is more preferable that the external preparation further contains a polyether-modified methylpolysiloxane in an amount of 1 to 10 mass%. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
