PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve problems that fluorescence emitting glass using the light emission transition of rare earth ion is expensive because a rare earth element of a high cost raw material is used and a fluorescence emitting glass formed by dispersing a fluorescence emitting semiconductor fine particle into a glass matrix is difficult to improve productivity. SOLUTION: The fluorescence emitting glass comprises a glass composition which contains 5-15% WO<SB>3</SB>+W<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>(where, W<SB>2</SB>O<SB>5</SB>is contained by 0.01-15%), 15-25% P<SB>2</SB>O<SB>5</SB>, 60-75%ZnO and 0.06-10% Al<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>by mol% and in which the volume fraction of a glass phase is≥70% and fluorescence caused by W<SP>5+</SP>ion contained in the glass composition is emitted in a visible ray region by the irradiation with exciting light of ultraviolet wavelength region. The fluorescence emitting glass is manufactured by melting a raw material at 1,020-1,400°C, keeping as it is to reduce the WO<SB>3</SB>source raw material and cooling. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
