PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a multilayer optical film to be manufactured more easily at a low cost and a method for manufacturing the multilayer optical film. SOLUTION: The multilayer optical film 1 is provided with: a support layer 5; an intermediate layer 7 to be formed on the support layer; an upper structured surface layer 2 to be formed on the intermediate layer; a plurality of notches 6 formed in the upper part on the side of the upper structured surface layer of the intermediate layer; and a plurality of lower convex parts 4 formed to be projected downward on the side of the intermediate layer in the lower part of the upper structured surface layer. Each of notches of the intermediate layer is engaged with each of the lower convex parts of the upper structured surface layer, so that the intermediate layer formed on the support layer is combined with the upper structured surface layer.
